In a press release, Volkswagen of America has announced the first major results of its nationwide Network Readiness Co-Op Program. As part of the program, Volkswagen will be investing $20 million to help transform its more than 600 dealership partners across all 50 states into regional hubs of EV experience.

Through its nationwide Network Readiness Co-Op Program, Volkswagen seeks to enhance consumer access by helping its dealership network establish the underlying EV infrastructure such as upgraded service centers and high-capacity chargers. The program will continue through June 2022 and would result in Volkswagen dealerships adding 23,490 kW of charging capacity, over 1,260 trained EV service technicians, and implemented dedicated EV Specialists to create e-mobility centric consumer experiences throughout America.

The news comes following the impressive sales and reservations for the all-electric Volkswagen ID.4 crossover SUV which has been one of the top drivers of Volkswagen’s sales in 2021, along with Volkswagen Atlas and Volkswagen Tiguan mid-size SUVs.

“It’s the consumer who will lead America’s electric vehicle revolution”, said Scott Keogh, President, and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. “And it’s our dealership partners who bring their communities into electric vehicles, providing unmatched service and expertise. We’re dedicated to fully supporting them in this journey. With nine out of ten Volkswagen ID.4 buyers identifying as first-time EV buyers, I’ve never been more confident that the electric future is driven by Volkswagen.”

EV Technician Retention Program

Additionally, VW has also launched a dedicated EV Technician Retention Program to support dealerships to boost training, incentivize highly skilled technicians and hire new talent to address the EV shift. The program enables participating VW dealerships to reward their EV technicians with a $2,000 retention bonus per year and encourage them to enhance their EV skills and get individual certifications to build expertise for the ID.4 and all future Volkswagen EV models.
