Volkswagen had a phenomenal year in terms of sales in the US last year. In a press release shared recently, Volkswagen of America reported its Q4 and 2021 year-end sales results, which show that the automaker sold 375,030 vehicles in the US in 2021 – a nice 15.1% year-on-year growth. Interestingly, the all-electric 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 has contributed significantly to VW’s sales here in the US. How many ID.4s did VW sell in 2021? Booming ID.4 Sales

Have you been waiting to get the ID.4 but wanted to see how the market reacts? Well, you’ll be glad to know that the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 has been one of the fastest-selling Volkswagen vehicles this year, selling over 15,000 units.

Since March 2021, Volkswagen has sold 16,742 ID.4 in the US. That’s almost 4.5% of the company’s total yearly sales volume. In Q4 alone, the Volkswagen ID.4 sold 4,463, roughly 5.3% of all the 84,336 VWs sold in Q4.

The ID.4 has also garnered more than 40,000 reservations since its introduction in March 2021, so more than half of customers are waiting for their new cars. Hopefully, this will change soon as Volkswagen begins assembling the ID.4 at its Chattanooga, TN plant this year.

The First EV For Many

According to Volkswagen, more than two-thirds of all ID.4 buyers are new to the VW brand, and nine out of them of the ID.4 customers are new to EVs.

Volkswagen says that more than 85 percent of all ID.4 customers have enrolled for the three years of unlimited charging at Electrify America DC Fast Chargers across the US, and drivers have already charged their ID.4s for more than 22 million miles at these stations.

Although the ID.4 is still in the early stages in the US, the model is expected to roll out new versions once it begins production at the Chattanooga plant, where Volkswagen of America has invested $800 million to make it ready for ID.4 and future EV production. VW’s EV push in the US will also provide jobs to more than 4,000 people, and the company is also investing $20 million to equip its dealership network for the EV experience.

Meanwhile, SUVs have been the biggest drivers for Volkswagen sales, accounting for 78% of the total sales in Q4. The Tiguan was the best-selling model for Volkswagen in 2021, selling 109,743 units. The Atlas family – Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport – sold 115,687 units combined, and the Taos sold 31,682 units in 2021.
